Another successful convention!

Quincon was a big success this year! Thanks to everyone that attended! Special thanks go out to all our sponsors, Black Pigeon Press, Down the Playce game store, and our vendors. The convention wouldn’t be the same without you. Thanks Ray for another great time!

There are pictures in the link on the right if you are interested. Anyone else that has pictures, please let me know. I know everyone would love to see them.

Are you up to saving the world from global annihilation? Nope. Probably not.

The auction was particularly good this year!

Quincon 26 starts tomorrow…

Just one more reminder! ;)

If you can help set up in the morning, please get there a little early (say 8:30 am). A local Kiwanis club meets there on Friday mornings for a breakfast meeting, so the tables and chairs will need to be moved around a bit. Gaming starts at 9 am (ish).

Also, I will be taking photos and posting them online in real time for those who can’t make it but would like to see what’s going on. In the blogroll to the right, click on the ‘Quincon 26 photos’ link. That will take you to a photobucket account that I set up specifically for the con.

Hope to see you there tomorrow!

Auction form is up!

For those who plan on trying to sell something at our auction. You can  sell anything game related and it only costs you 10 percent of the final sale price. The form is in the blogroll at the right in pdf format. You can print them and have this done before the convention begins….  (in only 9 days!)…

New and upcoming games…

I don’t know about you, but Independence Day always puts me in the mood for two things: BBQ and science fiction games. Not at the same time! That would be a disaster. I like my BBQ sweet. I like my science fiction filled with space battles, weird aliens, and weirder landscapes. In other words, good old fashionied Space Opera.

I’ve noticed that Space Opera is becoming hip again. One place that you can really see it is in the new boardgames that are coming out. Space Opera-themed games are well represented in the upcoming releases. Here are a few examples:

Ascending Empires by Z-man games. This one has space ships, battleships, planets and plastic armies. It also uses a ‘flick’ mechanic for movement and combat. Looks cool.

Alien Frontiers by Clever Mojo Games

This is more of an empire building game, but the art looks fantastic.

Star Trek: Expeditions by Wizkids

This is another Reiner Knezia design. A must for Star Trek fans?

Space Empires (4x) by GMT Games

Something for you hex-and-chit wargamers.

Battleship Galaxies by Hasbro

The game that I am most looking forward to. Coming to a store near you in just three days!
